Le Mat Village

Le Mat is the snake village. The locals raise snake for the up market restaurants in Hanoi. Fresh snake cuisine is available at this village, though it is not really cheap. A large snake can cost US$30 to US$50, but can feed four to six persons. Several up market snake restaurants can be found here. There are also a number of cheaper stalls peddling snake meat and snake elixir. If you have not stocked up on snake wine yet, this is good place to do it. On the 23rd day of the third lunar month is the very interesting Le Mat Festival, featuring ‘snake dances’ and other activities. Le Mat is 7km north-east of central Hanoi.
